We might think of chant as a Western art form and Gregorian Chant as the source of Western music harmony. But what of other Western religious chant and non-religious scales and rhythms?

In this exploration of chant we will look at various forms of Western chant from the start of notation to the present day, and discover similarities and differences to those in the non-Western world. Challenging to get into just an hour, this lecture will of necessity be but a broad survey. It will surely open our ears to a world lost and a world outside.
